Terms of use
Last updated 14 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Is It Down AU at is-it-down.com.au (“the site”, “we”, “us”). By using the site you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the site.
1. What the site is
Is It Down AU is an independent information service. It shows, separately, official status information published by some providers, automated checks of service homepages, and unverified reports from visitors. It also offers an internet speed test and a tool to check whether a website responds. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by any provider listed.
2. Information only
Everything on the site is general information, provided as is. Statuses are estimates based on limited evidence and may be incomplete, delayed or wrong. A website that answers our check can still have problems, and a website that doesn’t answer us may be working for you. Don’t rely on the site for decisions where an error could cause you loss; check with the provider directly. See how it works and the disclaimer.
3. Acceptable use
When you use the site, you agree not to:
- submit reports you know to be false, or try to make a service look down or up when it isn’t;
- use the website checker, “Check status” button or any part of the site to send excessive traffic to any service, or to probe, scan or attack any network or system;
- try to get around our rate limits, access controls or security, or access areas of the site not intended for you;
- scrape, copy or republish the site’s data in bulk, or use automated tools against the site, without our written permission;
- use the contact form to send spam, abuse, or unlawful content.
We may limit or block access to anyone who breaches these terms, and remove reports that appear to be abusive.
4. Your reports and messages
Reports are anonymous and contain only the service, problem type, state or territory and time. By submitting a report you allow us to show it, combined with other reports, on the site. Messages you send through the contact form are used to respond to you. Our privacy page explains what we store and for how long.
5. Third-party services and links
The speed test runs against Cloudflare’s network. Ads are provided by Google AdSense. Links to providers’ websites and status pages are for convenience; we don’t control those sites and aren’t responsible for their content. Logos and trade marks belong to their owners and are used only to identify each service.
6. Our content
The site’s design, text, guides and code are ours or used with permission. You may share links to any page. Please don’t copy substantial parts of the site without permission.
7. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts or modifies any right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that can’t lawfully be excluded. Subject to that, we provide the site free of charge and, to the extent permitted by law, we aren’t liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the site or any service listed on it.
8. Changes
We may change the site or these terms at any time. The date at the top shows when the terms last changed. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws in force in Australia.
